2008 Western Calendar
This calendar
is the 14th calendar produced from a weeklong cattle drive
done each July in the coastal range of Northern California. Linda goes
up to this camp to cook for the crew for the week. The crew ranges from
15 to 25 cowboys. This remote camp has no electricity and most cooking
is done on a wood stove, Dutch ovens, or BBQ. While up there, Linda
takes photos of the activities, the cattle, horses and dogs used to
gather. Usually a video is also taken and put to music to record the
week’s activities.
The crew
is
neighboring cattlemen and day cowboys who assist each other all season.
All horses and dogs are conditioned for this rugged range and are always
alternated so that they can rest up each day. We also have a farrier,
who is a cowboy, that takes care of any needed shoeing. All men tend to
their tack and dogs as needed. There are two gathers per day, 5 a.m.
and 5 p.m.
Upon
returning to camp, there is a cocktail hour to discuss incidents that
occurred and then dinner. Many a night we are eating at 10:30 to 11:00
p.m. Many sit around the campfire to swap stories or talk about the
buck that got away during their fall deer hunting trips.
This Green
Camp gather has been going on for 35 years and is just up from the
Silicon Valley and San Jose area. None of the San Francisco Bay area
commuters and general population know that there are cowboys and cattle
just over a few coastal ranges from their commute!
Cost
of calendar is $15.00 plus shipping. Individual
photos are also available for purchase separately. |
